In October of 2025, APlus owner, Viena, travelled down to Zanzibar yet again, and this time came across a lady who was working hard as a waitress in her hotel restaurant. Abea, a single mom, had come to Zanzibar from a poorer and less touristy province of Tanzania to earn money towards building her own home. In no time, the two made a connection, and since January of this year, APlus has been helping Abela get her house up a turbo speed by sending funding monthly towards the project. Abela’s next plan is to set up a little food stall next to her new home to be able to generate income for her life, and that’s something that we will continue to help her with.

A couple of weeks after Zanzibar, Viena travelled to Nairobi, Kenya and visited on of the city’s slums. There, she came across a shelter home in distress. It’s a sanctuary for dozens of handicapped kids allowing them to spend their days in safety, with food, care and some rehab. The centre was badly in need of all types of resources and APlus decided to step in and send several cash donations to help provide clothing, shoes and school supplies for the kids, as well as a large TV and half a dozen of wheelchairs.

But they say, “give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” And that’s exactly what we want to do now. Working with James, the head of the organization, we will be creating Hope Haven Kitchen & Grill, a self-sustaining business which will help keep the shelter going.

Every year, for the past 8 years, APlus has provided one-on-one financial assistance to an individual or family. Since meeting young Abdul Latif and his family in Zanzibar on our 2022 company trip, we decided to take a portion of our profits and build his family a home. One and a half years later, the home is standing and Abdul Latif’s family will be moving into it soon.
